Yo! In APRIL 1989 Nintendo dropped the Game Boy and the world changed FOREVER. Before this grey brick of destiny, we had the Atari Lynx and the odd little Game Gear, but none of them had:

~ The sacred 30Hz monochrome green screen (4 colors!!)
~ TELETYPING (it's called "link cable play" now, same thing)
~ Batteries that last weeks (unlike the Game Gear, lol)
~ TETRIS BEST GAME EVER

The Game Boy wasn't the most powerful handheld. It couldn't even do color. But somehow it was the one that survived, crushed the competition, and made an entire generation fall asleep with it under their pillow. Iconic. Price: $89.99.
